Note from Peter Erskine: "The music on this CD was made at the famed WDR radio studio in Cologne, Germany. Most of the songs are "first" takes. John Goldsby and I have enjoyed working together many times in the WDR Big Band; Bill Dobbins, formerly the Big Band's conductor, is now a frequent guest at WDR when he's not teaching at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. "Cologne" is a fitting title, simply because that's where our musical bonds were born and where this album was recorded. I might add: the album is a real swinger! Featuring original compositions by all three musicians, plus songs by Alec Wilder, "Cologne" is the kind of jazz album that's normally made in New York!"
